I’m here today with an interesting thought – do you ever find that your life is like a gum boot?

(Thanks to my friend Jane France for this really cool analogy!)

How it applies is like this: just as with an irritant like a stone or prickle in our real-life shoes, when something is happening in our lives that’s not ideal, we can take off the metaphorical gum boot, and let whatever it is spill out

There’s so much power and wisdom in this thinking.

We’re not a tree. We can move away from or dump out whatever the challenge might be.

A useful analogy might be with our health.

For myself, when we were last in Bali in Dec 2019 – surprising to think it’s been over a year! – I was eating a lot of raw cacao. Raw cacao has a lot of benefits, yet like anything, too much can create a challenge.

I noticed my skin wasn’t as good as it could be and neither was my digestion, so I quit it for a while before adding it back in. Now I eat it every 3-5 days with no issues. In this case, I was able to find the balance without completely cutting it out.

And we can look at our lives and habits that way. 1

So, what will you find if you take off the gum boot and turn it upside-down? What might you shake out and free yourself from?

If you’re keen to message me, I’d love to hear what you’re dumping out.

Until I see you for this week’s #AliveWithFi, keep sharing your sunshine!

1 Shaking out our gum boot might be something we have to do regularly, and that’s a good thing: “rather than trying to stay balanced, think of yourself as practicing balancing, over and over again.” Practicing balancing is a way to keep learning and growing. Dumping what’s in our gum boot is a way to be intentional in that process.
