I can remember feeling this very thing about getting my financial health sorted – can you relate?

To me it just seemed like a bottomless pit of challenges and I didn’t really want to even start going there. I didn’t have a clue about the basics of making sure I was moving in the right direction and felt like I wasn’t even treading water…I was sinking.

As you’d expect, the results were speaking for themselves with my non-ideal financial situation.

I still didn’t have much of a clue until I’d been running my own business for a few years and a client asked me if I was putting money aside for my retirement. I can remember feeling shocked, as I believed back then that I didn’t need to start thinking about that kind of thing until I was way further down the track.

Sure, I had basic understanding that money needs to come in and be available for bills and then ideally there’s some money left over. Although I was yet to grasp that there’s a little more to it than that. It’s worth having a read of this article 1 on this point.

It was around then that I started attending seminars, reading books, and spending time with people who were practicing healthy financial habits.

There’s wisdom in keeping within our budget and apportioning savings because at the end of the day, being able to do more of what we want is ultimately what it’s about, isn’t it?

For many of us, this means being able to enjoy quality time with the people we love, doing cool stuff, and maybe even being able to give back once we’ve met our own needs.

This is something that I really appreciate about my husband Chris. He’s focused on making sure he upskills when it comes to understanding money.

How about you – where are you at in this process of understanding your best way forwards financially?

As always – looking forward to seeing you on this week’s #ALivewithFi  – have a goodie 🙂
