The mother-of-all- wakeup calls that changed my life came when I was 21 and was given three years to live unless I took medication every day for the rest of my life.

That diagnosis was my reality-check to go back to basics.

I chose to make it a doorway to really look at how I was living and spot the areas that may need tweaking (or overhauling!) Of course medicine has a place, although when it comes to chronic, degenerative disease, there are often more options available to us than we might realize when it comes to enhancing our body’s ability to heal itself.

I’m blessed to say that one of my experienced mentors took me under his wing, and we embraced the basics. His support and guidance were game changers.

Having this health professional as my coach helped me get back on track with the key areas to influence my health; including the foods I was eating, filling in the gaps with quality nutritionals, appropriate exercise, and specific breathing techniques that helped me adjust my stress response. We focused on shifting from my initial adrenaline response into parasympathetic mode, which is when our energy available for healing is optimised. 1

I actually began seeking the basics in many other areas of my life too, from relationships to work-life balance.

If there were any, which could be some areas for improvement in your life? And do you believe linking arms with an experienced, successful coach could help you?

See you on this week’s #AliveWithFi, and please do share this message if you know of someone ready to have more energy or resolve a health challenge.

In the meantime, keep sharing your sunshine 😊

1One of the many ways that getting back to basics can support our health, is by encouraging the function of our parasympathetic nervous system which “acts like a brake. It promotes the ‘rest and digest’ response that calms the body down after the danger has passed.” “Understanding the Stress Response” Harvard Health Publishing, (n.d.)
