Fi Jamieson-Folland highlights her top tips on more energy; for life!
How would life be for you, if you couldn’t wait to leap out of bed in the morning?
If you felt your batteries were constantly on full charge?
And people kept asking you ‘what are you on?’

I remember when I was in my early 20’s, I often felt like I was dragging myself around, and was forever fighting off the latest bug going around. Things would come to a head every month or so, and I’d crash for a few days in bed. This was usually with a combination of full blown flu symptoms, migraines, digestive upsets, and asthma.

Shortly after this, I had my diagnosis that I’d be dead within 3 years unless I took medication daily for the rest of my life. This was following my dad’s sudden death.
And it was at this same time I met one of my mentors (thank heavens) who taught me some of the basics to claiming back my health.

That was back in 1989. Today, I’m happier, healthier and have more energy than I did when I was 21. Check out my story here.

Here are 3 of the steps I took (and still take daily) to turn things around –

  • Me-time

I started to listen to me. Sound odd?

Well when I stopped and thought about my situation, I realised something.

Which sounds more strange to you; doing what I had been doing which was basically listening to everyone else’s opinions about what I needed, or instead, listening to what my body was telling me I needed? For example, my body was telling me to have a brief rest instead of another coffee, or to go out and get some fresh air instead of convincing myself to keep studying after 2 hours of staring at the same page.

Once I gave myself 10 or more minutes a day to unplug, for what I now call ‘mindfreeness time’ I noticed that I began making wiser choices.

Interestingly I also started to feel better.

  • Make a decision

I realized that my life needed to change. As I began my mindfreeness time, I found it harder to go and drink my 10 pints of larger and smoke that packet of cigarettes on a Friday night (and repeat it on a saturday night).

And once I took the step, and made the decision to create my kind of battery-charged-life, I looked back only a handful of times over the next months and years.

  • Optimal Nutrition

I heard the legend Tony Robbins once say ‘we are what we ate’. I would add ‘and what we drink’ to his exclamation.

And how true these words are!

Bare in mind that back when I was 21, I was fueling my ‘Ferrari’ on an average of 15 coffees a day, and eating a lazy vegetarian diet with large helpings of toast, peanut butter, cheese and chocolate. Erm…and you already know about the weekend drinkies habit.

So, I learned about the ideal foods to be eating to fuel my cells, and about the gaps in micronutrition in the food I was eating, that are unfortunately inevitable given the current food supply (whether organic or more conventionally grown). And then I set about filling those gaps.

Take Away – Having more energy maybe more do-able than you think.
