As well as sometimes being a rude awakening, a glance at our goal-progress can be our best friend when it comes to crossing the finishing line.

Now that we’re closing out the first quarter of the year, it’s timely to get clear about the reason we’d bother.

Here are the 3 biggest bonuses I’ve found with being real about where I’m up to –

  1. If I’m not where I aimed to be by now, I can measure how short of my goal I am. Next I either opt to add this shortfall onto my next quarter’s goals, or adjust my targets moving forwards.
  2. If I’ve missed my target, I can figure out the top 3 reasons for this. If I’m too close to the ‘coal face’ I can ask a trusted peer for their insights, or better still ask my coach or mentor for guidance.
  3. I can learn from what I’ve just done, and adjust my approach to get different results moving forwards.

I used to think these 3 steps were not only boring, I didn’t think they’d actually work. It’s taken time and patience to go ahead and use them, and in many ways I’m still a novice.

So much to learn ☺
